Cloud Valley: A Highly Expandable Apartment Design by Huang Haizhu

Creating a Multi-functional Space for Amusement and Rest

For the young people today, what they want is not simply to maximize the utilization rate of space, but to see more flexible and effective life scenes based on different aesthetic and lifestyle preferences. Based on this perspective, this project aims to create a multi-functional space for amusement and rest at the same time.

In the space of Cloud Valley, the two-storey high dining room enjoys maximum daylight, providing an open view with light and shadows. The second floor is used for working and relaxation. Foldable sliding doors are employed to separate different spaces which are both independent and shared, providing superior convenience. With the glass doors open or folded, several possible dynamic scenes become clear – reading, communicating, playing... it is a creative working and living space. At night, the glass doors will unfold to create a quiet and private space for sleeping.

In this project, grey marble steps and leather metal handrails form stylish geometric lines. The space beneath the staircase is designed as a small shelf, which can be used for storage. The glass doors that can be open or folded are employed to separate different spaces. The space is mainly decorated in warm earth tones. Khaki orange and starry blue against the white background look warm and affectionate. Marble background walls with geometric textures contrast with the leather decorations, enriching the space levels and creating a linear sequence. Here, a calm and peaceful atmosphere is created in an artistic way.

The Cloud Valley apartment spans an area of 52 square meters and is located in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China. The design project aimed to overcome the challenge of creating a multi-functional space for amusement and rest within a limited area. By utilizing foldable sliding doors, the design team was able to separate different spaces while maintaining convenience and flexibility. The glass doors can be opened or folded to create various dynamic scenes, making it a creative working and living space. At night, the glass doors unfold to provide a quiet and private sleeping area.
